It is suggested to start giving semi-solid food which can be a mashed food or in form of puree to your baby after 6 months. Introducing different foods to your baby can be a little bit difficult task because you have to make it taste good along with balancing nutrients which your baby requires on daily basis.

I strongly suggest you to make your own baby food at home and stop buying ready made food. I know it sounds difficult for a working mom to make it at home. If you can buy a small sized pressure cooker it will be good. As it helps to cook your baby’s food properly in very less time. The recipes I am sharing here will not take much of your time & these are tasty & healthy.

APPLE PUREE :

Apple puree

As you all know that apple is considered as a fruit which can keep you away from doctor if you consume it daily. It can really keep you away from doctor because of amazing properties present in it.

Apple is a rich source of antioxidants which helps to boost immune system. It contains soluble & insoluble fibre which improves digestion, reduces constipation & helps in removing toxins from body.

INGREDIENTS : ( serves – 1 )

  1. Apple – 1
  2. Jaggery – a small piece

METHOD :

  1. Take a utensil fill it half with clean & filtered water, keep it on medium flame
  2. Wash & peel apple, chop into small pieces
  3. Now keep a strainer above the boiling water & add apple pieces
  4. Cover it with lead & let the apple steam for about 20 minute on medium flame
  5. After 20 minute take out the steamed apples
  6. Take 3-4 tsp of steamed water & keep the rest of water away
  7. Add the piece of jaggery in water and let it melt on the low & stir it in between
  8. Now mash steamed apple using the back of a spoon in a tea strainer, a smooth apple paste will come through the strainer
  9. Add apple paste in water & stir it on low flame while adjusting the consistency
  10. Turn off the flame & your own homemade apple puree is ready.

SWEET POTATO PUREE :

Sweet potato puree

Sweet potato is a good source of calcium, antioxidants, iron, fibre, folate etc. It helps to fight with free radicals, improves immune system & provides instant energy to the body.

INGREDIENTS : ( serves – 1 )

  1. Sweet potato – 2

Method :

  1. Take a flat iron pan & keep it on medium heat
  2. Wash the sweet potatoes properly & do not dry them
  3. Keep them on iron pan & cover with a big utensil
  4. Let them roast on medium heat for 4-5 min on medium flame
  5. Flip to other side & let them roast for other 2-3 min
  6. Using iron pan helps to absorb iron while roasting
  7. When sweet potatoes are roasted completely turn off the flame & take them out
  8. Now peel the sweet potato & mash them using back of a spoon
  9. Take a pan add 3-4 tsp of water & add mashed sweet potato
  10. Stir it properly & make it a little thick
  11. Now strain this sweet potato puree using a tea strainer & your homemade sweet potato puree is ready.

SEMOLINA PORRIDGE :

Semolina Porridge

Semolina is a good source of potassium & iron. It also contains vitamin B & E. Semolina is light in nature which makes it an easy to digest food. It also helps to keep heart strong & healthy. It can be easily made in many ways.

INGREDIENTS FOR SWEET PORRIDGE : ( serves – 1 )

  1. Semolina flour – 2 tbsp
  2. Milk – 1 cup
  3. Sugar – 1/3 tsp
  4. Dry fruit powder ( optional ) – 1/4 tsp

METHOD :

  1. In a flat pan dry roast semolina flour for 10-15 seconds on low flame & take it out
  2. Add milk in a pan, heat it on low flame
  3. Pour sugar & stir
  4. Put in semolina flour & stir it continuously
  5. Add dry fruit powder ( optional )
  6. Stir & cook for about 4-5 minute
  7. Adjust consistency accordingly, you can add more milk or water if you want.
  8. Turn off the flame & it is ready to consume.

INGREDIENTS FOR SALTY PORRIDGE : ( serves – 1 )

  1. Semolina flour – 2 tbsp
  2. Salt – a pinch
  3. Ghee or clarified butter – 1/4 tsp

METHOD :

  1. Take a flat pan & dry roast semolina flour for 10-15 seconds on low flame, take it out
  2. Add 1 cup water
  3. Put salt & ghee in water & stir
  4. Add semolina & stir properly to avoid lumps
  5. Stir & cook it for 5- 6 minutes on low flame
  6. Turn off the flame & it is ready to consume.

MIX VEGETABLE PUREE :

Mix vegetable puree

Mix vegetable puree can be easily made in 10-15 minutes. It is made with healthy vegetables slightly fried in clarified butter. I must tell you the benefits of clarified butter. This butter is basically made from fresh milk cream. It can be made at home or you can also buy a jar of good quality from any store. I suggest you to use cow’s ghee for your baby’s food.

BENEFITS OF CLARIFIED BUTTER :

  1. Ghee or clarified butter helps to nourish dry skin
  2. It has anti-inflammatory properties
  3. It is considered as a healthy fat
  4. Helps your baby to gain healthy weight
  5. Improves baby’s digestion

INGREDIENTS :

  1. Carrot – 1 medium sized
  2. Tomato ( remove seeds ) – half
  3. Zucchini – 4-5 cubes
  4. Green peas – 7 -8
  5. Potato – 4-5 cubes
  6. Ghee – 1/2 tsp
  7. Salt – a pinch

METHOD :

  1. Cut all the vegetables roughly in small pieces
  2. Take a small sized pressure cooker ( as it will take very less time to cook veggies nicely )
  3. Add Ghee in the cooker on low flame
  4. Put all the veggies & stir fry for 1 minute
  5. Add salt & stir
  6. Pour 3-4 tsp of water & stir
  7. Let it boil for 1 minute
  8. Close the lid
  9. Let it cook for about 3-4 whistles on low flame
  10. Turn off the flame & let it release pressure itself
  11. Check the veggies if they are cooked completely, if they are not cooked let them cook on low flame for more 3-4 minute without closing the lead
  12. Mash the cooked vegetables using back of a spoon or use hand blender to make a smooth puree
  13. Your own homemade vegetable puree is ready to consume.
